Save Our Family Ranchers
Ranches across the west, especially those based on grazing allotments and run by small family units, are being forced to the brink of extinction.
The Endangered Species Act is being Weaponized to ensure that they have no voice and no recourse in protecting their homes ranches livelihoods and livestock. Lives have been disrupted and destroyed by such actions as wolf reintroduction and other predator protections that do not allow ranchers to protect vulnerable baby calves or even herding dogs. It’s as if our property is no longer our property if it is standing on a grazing allotment. Even if that allotment has been in the family and run by a family for a century or more. As the programs progress more rights are undermined and stolen and revoked each year. The ESA is not a license to destroy a link in the food supply.
Currently a smear campaign by a wealthy well known environmental organization has propagandized 26 years’ worth of data on wolf deaths to imply most were human caused and justice must be had. Even though hundreds of them were due to natural life mortality or other causes. They have offered a reward to turn in people who they believe have killed wolves for whatever reason. This $105,000 reward billboard comes on the heels of that same organizations attempt to destroy the ranch and reputations of several local ranchers in the national media. This serves a dual purpose it’s a propaganda tool designed to desensitize people to the needs of American’s, and it also serves to further grow their coffers.
They are wealthy and have free legal fund access, they also have access to EAJA a method of assuring the Government reimburses them for their legal funds.
Family ranchers don’t have access to those funds as we are not wealthy and cannot afford lawsuits to defend against their onslaught. Unfortunately, their lawsuits are mostly settled with the agency they have sued, and ranchers are left hanging with fewer and fewer protections to our homes and livelihoods. It is a cottage industry benefitting them greatly as this billboard will be used to ensure more uneducated donations pour in.
We would like to show what is truthfully happening with predator recovery without mitigation or management for the human element. We would like to propose a billboard to counter the reward billboard with the facts about the impacts ranchers face when living in close proximity to a federally protected species that eats your paycheck and tortures your family and your animals. Some may say cattle are eaten anyway, perhaps that is true, but a wolf is the most inhumane death imaginable, causing irreparable harm to the herds behavior and resilience, as well as the calf or cow colt, horse or dog, that is killed that day and often it is multiple animals. This is not just about the money, it is also about the wellbeing of families, the things children have to see, the stress and mental health of households, a major unaddressed issue when people are forced to deal with wolves killing on their pastures.
The billboard will cost approximately $7000 or more for a year. We would also like to be able to contribute to or orchestrate legal action to end the propaganda and slander that has come with the actions of these organizations that appear to be made up of idolaters who care nothing for the people they are impacting.
